How is battery life affected?
Battery life is determined by battery capacity and battery drain. A Discussion of standby and talk times assumes ideal conditions. Most people will never use their battery in ideal conditions. Using a cell phone in analog mode drains the battery quickly as does leaving your cell phone on when there is no contact with a cell tower. This is most likely to happen when you are in a building, tunnel, underground, or in an airplane. In these cases, the cell phone will deplete its battery trying to reestablish a connection with the cell tower.

How do I get the best performance out of my battery?
You will get the best performance out of your battery if you regularly charge and discharge the battery. Battery performance is greatly affected by network coverage and the features you selected. A fully charged battery will discharge itself in approximately one month if it is not used.

What is battery freshness?
A fresh battery is a new battery. A battery’s ability to hold a charge is reduced over time. If a battery sits in a warehouse for many months before it is sold it is not a fresh battery.

How can I recycle my depleted (dead) battery?
That's an excellent question! Always recycle your worn-out battery. Never throw them in the trash! Protect the enviornment. Here is a link to find a recycling center near you: CLICK HERE! You'll be glad you did.

What is the best way to charge and condition my new battery?
To insure your new battery works properly, charge the battery fully (overnight) and drain it fully (completely dead). Do this three times. This will insure that your battery operates at its maximum capacity. This recommendation includes all cell phone, digital camera and camcorder batteries. You can discharge your battery by unplugging the AC adapter and leaving the device turned on until the battery completely discharges.

When charging your battery, a very slow charge works best. The battery should be charged at least 14 hours the first time you charge it. Use a charger that is plugged into a wall socket (not a car charger) to charge your battery the first time few times.

What capacity battery should I get and what is mAh?
The capacity of a cell phone battery is measured in mAh which stands for (milliamp-hour). Higher capacity batteries offer longer standby and talk times but they are heavier and bulkier than lower capacity batteries. The battery capacity you choose will depend on how long you want to use the phone between charges and how large a battery you will accept. We suggest you consider a standard capacity battery, as most people are happy with the standard capacity.

My new battery doesn't hold a charge. What is the problem?
Your new cell phone battery must be charged slowly before you use it the first time and for the first several uses. All new batteries arrive from the factory uncharged. Your new battery requires a “break-in” period, so don’t be alarmed if your battery doesn’t hold a full charge right away. The full charge voltage, as indicated on your phone or charger, may be a false indication when the battery is new. Also, new batteries may not power up your phone because of low voltage.

What are the different types of cell phone batteries?
The Four Types of Cell Phone Batteries

1. Lithium Polymer: This is the latest battery technology used in cell phones and has a higher power density than the other types of batteries. These batteries can be thinner or lighter than other batteries. Typically, they are about 30% lighter than Nikel Cadmium or Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. Lithium Polymer batteries do not suffer from memory effect and can be charged anytime.

2. Lithium Ion: This type of battery has a higher capacity and is lighter than Nickel Cadmium or Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. They are usually installed in new phones at the factory. This battery technology has the best combination of size, capacity, and value. Lithium Ion batteries do not suffer from memory effect and can be re-charged anytime. These batteries cost more than Nickel Cadmium or Nickel Metal Hydride batteries because they are higher quality batteries. They are light weight, have high energy density, a long cycle life, and do not suffer from memory effect.

3. Nickel Metal Hydride: This is the most popular of the standard batteries. They are lighter than Nickel Cadmium Batteries, but heavier than Lithium-ion batteries. While Nickel Metal Hydride batteries are not as susceptible to memory effect as Nickel Cadmium Batteries, they must be cycled periodically for optimum performance.

4. Nickel Cadmium: This is the oldest battery technology used in cell phones. These batteries are the heaviest and lowest capacity batteries and they suffer the most from memory effect.

What is Memory Effect?
If a battery is charged over and over when it has power stored in it, the battery will eventually build a memory and will not be able to completely discharge and charge at full capacity. This may cause the battery to lose over 50% of its service life during its first year of use. This is called Memory Effect.

What happens if I leave my battery in the charger for a long time?
Too much charging may shorten the life of the battery. About 24 hours is the maximum time we recommend for charging a battery.

My new battery isn't charging. Is it defective?
Usually NO. New batteries come in a discharged condition and must be fully charged before use. It is recommended that you fully charge and discharge the new battery two to four times to allow it to reach its maximum rated capacity.

It is generally recommend an overnight charge (approximately twelve hours). It is normal for a battery to become warm to the touch during charging and discharging.

When charging the battery for the first time, the device may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal with rechargeable batteries. New batteries are hard for the device to charge; they have never been fully charged and not “broken in.” Sometimes the device's charger will stop charging a new battery before it is fully charged. If this happens, remove the battery from the device and then reinsert it. The charge cycle should begin again. This may happen several times during the first battery charge. Don't worry; it's perfectly normal.

My battery doesn't seem to be fully charging. Do I need a new battery?
Maybe, but trying cleaning the contacts first. One of the biggest problems consumers face with batteries is dirty contacts on the charger or on the battery itself.

If you are having problems with your existing battery or problems breaking in a new battery, try cleaning the metal contacts on the charger. They make look perfectly clean, but in fact may be oxidized, thus preventing a good connection. First, unplug the charger and clean the contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. Dry thoroughly. It's also a good idea to clean the battery contacts the same way to insure a good connection between the battery and your portable device.

Use this procedure when you get a new battery and periodically (say every 3 - 6 months) thereafter. It'll help keep your device working properly!
